Chestnut Expressway Move to Temporary Bypass West of Route 65 RESCHEDULED for Friday Night, Jan. 20

 

Chestnut Expressway move to temporary bypass between Ingram Mill Road and Belcrest Avenue RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY NIGHT, Jan. 20. THE TRAFFIC SWITCH RESCHEDULED DUE TO WET PAVEMENT CONDITIONS THAT HAVE POSTPONED PAVEMENT STRIPING AND THE FORECAST FOR FOG TONIGHT (Thursday, Jan. 19).

Where: Chestnut Expressway between Belcrest Avenue and Ingram Mill Road west of Route 65 in Springfield

What:Chestnut Expressway traffic moving to temporary bypass located slightly north of the existing roadway to allow contractor crews to begin work to build new railroad overpass

When: RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, JAN. 20. Work begins after 9 p.m.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

  • Chestnut Expressway CLOSED  to all traffic during traffic move to temporary bypass.
  • Signed detour:
    • For eastbound traffic: Belcrest Avenue to Cairo Street to Union Avenue to Cherry Street to Ingram Mill Road
    • For westbound traffic: Ingram Mill Road to Cherry Street to Union Avenue to Cairo Street to Belcrest Avenue
  • Chestnut Expressway temporary bypass traffic configuration:
    • One eastbound lane open
    • Two westbound lanes open
    • No center turn lane
    • Left turns restricted at Chestnut Expressway/Belcrest Avenue intersection
  • MAJOR TRAFFIC CONGESTION EXPECTED ON CHESTNUT EXPRESSWAY DURING MONDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON RUSH HOURS

 

Project Facts:

  • Build new roads on either side of Chestnut Expressway to provide access to area businesses
  • Build a bridge on Chestnut Expressway over the railroad tracks west of Route 65
  • Install a new traffic signal at Ingram Mill Road and Chestnut Expressway
  • Frist phase of construction: June to December 2016
  • Second phase of construction: January 2017 to late November 2017 
  • Total project cost estimate: $14.8 million
  • Completion: Late November 2017
  • Partnership project: city of Springfield, Greene County, Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad, MoDOT
