Battlefield Road/Route 65 Interchange Reconstruction Project

Update for Week of June 22, 2015

MAJOR TRAFFIC IMPACTS PLANNED June 23-29:

Battlefield Road CLOSED, Bridge Demolition Planned,

New Traffic Shift on Battlefield Road at Route 65

Springfield, Greene County -Drivers can expect some MAJOR TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGES coming to the Battlefield Road and Route 65 interchange beginning Tuesday, June 23, and lasting through the week until June 29, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Here's a look at the expected traffic impacts:

Tuesday-Monday, June 23-29:Battlefield Road CLOSED on the east side of Route 65 to allow crews to make pavement adjustments to get ready for switching traffic to the new south half of the bridge over Route 65 during the upcoming June 28-29 weekend.

Monday, June 29:The northbound off ramp from Route 65 to Battlefield Road reopens to traffic.

Sunday Night-Monday morning, June 28-29:Route 65 traffic routed over the ramps at Battlefield Road.  Battlefield Road is CLOSED at Route 65.  Crews will demolish the old north half of the Battlefield Road bridge over Route 65.   

Traffic Impacts During Bridge Demolition:

During the June 28-29 closing, Battlefield Road over Route 65 will remain CLOSED.  Drivers may use Battlefield Road on either side of Route 65 to reach businesses, but they will not be able to cross the bridge during the demolition.

Route 65 will be CLOSED underneath Battlefield Road during the demolition with Route 65 traffic routed over the ramps at the Battlefield Road interchange.

No right turns will be allowed onto or off of the ramps at the Battlefield Road/Route 65 interchange.  The ramps will only be open to Route 65 through-traffic.

A signed detour is posted directing drivers to use Battlefield Road to Ingram Mill Road to Sunshine Street to Route 65 on the west side of Route 65.  Another detour will direct drivers from Battlefield Road to Blackman Road to Sunshine Street to Route 65 on the east side of Route 65. 

When the work is completed, Battlefield Road will remain in the Diverging Diamond traffic pattern, but will be shifted to the south half of the new bridge over Route 65.

Project Summary:

• Replace Battlefield Road bridge over Route 65
• Convert interchange to a Diverging Diamond configuration
• Build northbound and southbound auxiliary lanes on Route 65 to connect Sunshine Street and Battlefield Road ramps
• Install new traffic signal at Battlefield Road and Woodstock Avenue
